Legacy United Way Broward
Donor Testimonial Questionnaire
Give us a brief background (hometown, type of gift established…)
I am a retired aerospace engineer, originally from Houston, Texas, but I spent most of my professional life in California. I moved to Fort Lauderdale four years ago. I have formally committed $200k in my will to United Way of Broward County. I targeted my gift to Asset Limited, Income Constrained, Employed (ALICE) families.
1. How would you describe your experience with United Way of Broward County?
I have enjoyed becoming active with United Way of Broward County in my retirement. I am a ReadingPals volunteer and have participated in United Way of Broward County's assessments of STEAM program proposals. I also enjoy attending the Alexis de Tocqueville Society presentations so many great speakers and subjects! And, of course, I have been very impressed with the knowledge, dedication, and enthusiasm of the United Way of Broward County staff.
2. Who or what inspired you to make a gift to United Way of Broward County through your estate plans?
When I received Adriana LeCorgne's email about United Way of Broward Countys's drive to find 80 people to form a Legacy Circle, it seemed like the perfect time to include United Way of Broward County in my will and estate planning. I was inspired to help ALICE families, who are trying to hold everything together (food, shelter, healthcare …) while living paycheck to paycheck. I have so much empathy and respect for these families.
3. Was it difficult to make this gift?
No, not at all! The most difficult part was making a trip to my lawyer to sign the paperwork J
4. What would you tell others who are considering this type of gift?
I would say that United Way of Broward County does an amazing job, and that potential donors can have faith that their gift will be administered by professionals and be a big help to people in need in our community, especially during the economic upheaval caused by the coronavirus pandemic.
5. Is there anything that you would like to add?
Thanks very much!
